GM Ganguly is 4th time National Champion

GM Ganguly has won National A chess championship 2006 for the 4th time. Deepan chakravarthy,Arun prasad, Rohit G, Suvarjit saha and Gopal also qualified for indian team. Harika, G.Rohit, Ratnakaran, Somak Palit and Gopal already achieved IM norms from this event. Gopal has become IM by achieving his last norm.

Umakant Sharma caught cheating and banned for 10 yrs!!!

Rising chess star Umakant sharma was banned for 10 yrs by AICF for cheating in a fide rated tournament in New Delhi with a blue tooth device. He increased his rating from 1900 to 2484 in just over a year and was under suspicion of using unfair means. Congrats to arbiters for taking action. He should be banned indefinitely from playing in tournaments.

Katerina Lanho defeats Negi in Amity GM challenge

Katerina and Negi played a match in three formats, 6 classical games, 6 rapid and 6 blitz. She defeated Negi in all three formats. May be Negi is still raw and needs more experience....

WGM Tanya Sachdev is new Womens National Champion

WGM Tanya Sachdev has won 2006 national womens A tournament. Harika, Meenakshi, Arti, Vijalalaxmi and Amruta Mokal also qualified to be in Indian team. Amruta obtained her first WIM norm by defeating vijayalaxmi.

India wins Gold Medal in Asian Games 2006

Indian chess team won gold medal due to extraordinary performance of the team members in asian games 2006. Indian chess team convincingly beat china and uzbekistan each with a score of 3-0 . Indian team of sasikiran, hari and koneru showed great form. Saskiran beat former world champion Rustam Kasimdzhanov with a brilliant game and was unbeaten in all 9 rounds.

Koneru Humpy Wins asian games rapid chess Gold medal

Koneru humpy has won Asian games 2006 women's rapid chess gold medal. She was clear first (8/9) after 9 rounds. Harikrishna and Sasikiran disappointed in men's rapid chess event.
